A Party With a Purpose: Everything you need to know about Flights to Fight Cancer

We’re having a party in Steven’s honor! Steven Vanover was a son, brother, fiance, friend, and so much more. But his life ended too soon due to sarcoma - a rare and underfunded cancer. Because of its rarity, there aren’t many options for patients seeking life-saving treatment. The Steven Vanover Foundation’s mission, ultimately, is to find a cure.

What better way to do that than with a party? A gala in fact. Flights to Fight Cancer will be a choose-your-own-adventure kind of night in the form of all different kinds of flights. Beer flights, wine flights, bourbon flights (of course), and food flights.

Why flights? First of all, it’s a great way to showcase local food and drinks from our sponsors and partners. But also, it ties into the Steven Vanover Foundation’s belief about having options. “Just as we want to raise money so that cancer patients can have treatment options and the option to get great care close to home, we want our gala guests to have options as well,” said Lauren Raque, president of the Steven Vanover Foundation.

Join us at the Mellwood Art and Entertainment Center in Louisville from 5:30 to 11 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 15.

After you grab some drinks from the open bar, make sure you check out the silent auction. There will be dozens of items generously donated from local organizations. You’ll have the chance to snag some great items at a good price and for a good cause.

And then the real fun begins as the live auction takes off. Hosted by an energetic, quick-witted auctioneer, gala attendees will have the chance to compete against each other to take home the night’s top items. You’ll have to be there in person to find out what items you’ll have to choose from, but let’s just say they are first class.

After dinner, we’ll take flight on the dance floor. Your adrenaline will be pumping from the live auction, so ride that high by dancing the night away to Epic Entertainment’s playlist that is sure to keep you on your feet.

Now let’s talk clothing. The dress is cocktail attire, so find something festive in your closet. The dress code is flexible and allows you to have some fun as you choose an outfit that fits your style. Once again -- options.

Want to be a sponsor? Awesome! For more information on sponsorship opportunities, please visit FlightsToFightCancer.org.

Ready to buy tickets? Sweet! Visit the event page to purchase them. Individual tickets are $100. With that ticket, you get a plated dinner, flights (appetizer, wine and dessert) and access to the open bar. If you’re bringing a crew, you can purchase a Friends of Steven Table for $1,000. That includes everything an individual ticket provides plus recognition in the program and at the table. If you want to upgrade to premium class, we have premium flights available.
