Summer is heating up with sarcoma advocacy!

As summer approaches, it’s easy for your busy calendar to quickly fill up with events and outings like barbecues, beach vacations and road trips. These are all great opportunities to get outside and enjoy time with loved ones. The Steven Vanover Foundation wants to wish everyone a safe and happy summer, but also remind you that these hot months serve a special advocacy role for the Steven Vanover Foundation!

Mark your calendars

June

June is Men’s Health Month. Steven was diagnosed with desmoplastic small round cell tumors (DSRCT) at the age of 23. As a young, active man, cancer was definitely not top of mind for Steven. Use this month as a reminder to spread awareness of preventable health problems and encourage early detection and treatment for yourself or the men in your lives.

July

July is Sarcoma Awareness Month. Sarcoma makes up less than one percent of the cancer population, according to the Sarcoma Foundation of America. As you go through July, help fight cancer by promoting advocacy, practicing prevention efforts or donating to the Steven Vanover Foundation. All these efforts can help support sarcoma research to find a cure.

August

August is Wellness Month. Not only does August focus on total mind and body wellness, this month also features three different sarcoma fundraising events in Louisville, KY.

Charlie George Invitational - Saturday, Aug. 3

A simple game of golf in 2011 has transformed into a unique philanthropic event and one-of-a-kind golf scramble to raise money for local charities and scholarships. The Steven Vanover Foundation is grateful to be one of the recipients of donations from this annual charitable event. Registration is closed, but you can still support CGI through a donation.

Spike Out Sarcoma - Saturday, Aug. 10

Volleyball teams of all levels compete in both pool and tournament-style games throughout the day. Spectators enjoy a DJ, games, raffles, a corn hole tournament, food, drinks and more. Registration will open soon.

Race to Cure Sarcoma - Saturday, Aug. 17

Registration is now open for the 5K Run/Walk and silent auction at the Louisville Zoo. Support this inaugural event by rallying friends and family to be part of this interactive fun run or walk! Participants receive all-day access to the Louisville Zoo, following the event. Don’t forget to stop by the Steven Vanover Foundation table to say hi!

Be sure you put these events on your calendar before it gets too busy! Remember, the Steven Vanover Foundation works year-round to find a cure for sarcoma, not just during the summer. If you would like to help support our cause, you can make a donation or help us spread the word via social media!
